Instant Messaging for LinkedIn?

Posted on April 6, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

2009 saw a lot of changes to the user interface and functionality of LinkedIn. In this video I discuss what I would like to see happen this year – Instant messaging would bring LinkedIn alive and allow users to REALLY interact. What do you think?

Nice location Mark!

With all this geo-tagging, I would like to see a Foursquare type app, that pulls the data from LinkedIn, so that at a conference. exhibition (or anywhere for that matter) you could idnetify and find your LI connections.

Thanks Andy, that sounds a great idea. Maybe Foursquare are working with the LinkedIn API at the moment to feaature a link with LI contacts?

Hey Mark,

I watched your video this morning and I think the instant messaging idea for LinkedIn is brilliant! However, I also feel that it might be one of those tools that some people will use and some people will not – much like Facebook.

If it were to become a commonly used function of LinkedIn, it would be a wonderful tool for recruiters to communicate with their clients and candidates.

Great work Mr. LinkedIn!

Instant messaging would be great, especially in ‘controlled’ groups or in a Q&A section, where the IM’s are stored, rather than private IMs.

I’d like to see a facility to ‘merge’ groups or have a ‘parent’ group, rather than rely on sub-groups, as these don’t seem to work very well.

Excellent video post as well Mark.

Hi Mark,
Instant Messaging would be great for the obvious reasons in recruiting but I feel so many companies would block it for a number of reasons, mainly time consuming of employees time when Email is already the main communication tool.

It is something that I would really like to see though.

Thanks Lee

Any update on instant messages for Linkedin? This would really be such a beneficial addition to the site!

Not yet Jennifer, I suspect they are concerned about spam but I think they could put controls in place to ensure you had complete control over who you wish to chat with.

Keep me in the loop if you get any idea of this update. As a recruiter, I would love to see this!
